Based on current listings checked October 2026. Your exact price depends on model, size and part number.
Repair is usually worth it when the parts cost less than about half of a comparable new grill and the firebox is solid. On a premium built-in that costs $7,000 to $12,000 new, even $1,000 in burners and valves is a good deal. On a $450 to $900 cart grill, two or three major parts can tip it toward replacing.

The short answer
Grill techs get asked this every week. The rule most of us use: if the repair costs less than about half of what a comparable new grill would cost, and the firebox and housing are solid, fix it. If the firebox is rusted through, the housing is cracked, or the parts are no longer made, replace it.
The math is very different depending on what kind of grill you have. A burner kit on a Weber is $50 to $135, and a new Weber Spirit is $449 to $869. A Lynx brass burner is $435 to $545, but a new 36 inch Lynx is about $7,700 to $8,400. The part looks expensive, but the grill it goes into is worth fixing.

Mass-market grills: Weber, Napoleon and big-box brands
On a cart grill, the main wear parts are burners, igniters, flavorizer bars or heat plates, and grates. On a Weber, burner kits run about $50 to $135 OEM, igniter kits and modules about $25 to $155, and new Spirit grills start at $449. Genesis grills run about $949 to $1,399.
So if your 8 year old Spirit needs burners, an igniter and flavorizer bars, you might spend $200 to $300 in parts. That is still worth it if the cookbox is sound. If it also needs grates and a manifold, you are getting close to half of a new one, and replacing starts to make sense.
Weber grills are good candidates for repair because the parts are cheap, easy to find and well documented, and the cast aluminum cookbox does not rust. The Weber parts price guide has more detail by model. Big-box brands with thin steel fireboxes are a different story. Once the firebox rusts out, there is nothing to bolt new parts to.

Mid-range built-ins
A new 32 inch built-in from Blaze, Lion, Summerset or Napoleon runs about $1,800 to $2,950 for the grill head. Parts for these grills are moderately priced. A Blaze main burner valve is about $40 and a Blaze cast stainless burner about $100. Repair almost always wins as long as the body is stainless and not rusted through.
There is one more cost people forget with built-ins. A new grill head has to fit the existing island cutout. Brands and even models within a brand use different cutout sizes. If the new grill does not fit, you are paying someone to cut or rebuild the island. That alone often makes repair the better choice.
Premium built-ins: Lynx, Fire Magic, Alfresco, Twin Eagles, Hestan
New premium grill heads are expensive. A Fire Magic Choice or Aurora built-in runs about $3,740 to $8,630, an Echelon about $7,940 to $12,000, and 36 inch grills from Lynx, Hestan, Alfresco and Twin Eagles about $7,080 to $11,680.
Parts are expensive too, but not compared to the grill. A Fire Magic cast stainless E burner is about $350, and a Fire Magic valve is $88 to $102. Lynx brass burners run $435 to $545, and Lynx infrared burners $430 to $735. Alfresco main burners are about $360. Even a full rebuild with new burners, igniters, briquette trays and a valve or two, which can top $1,500 in parts on a large grill, is a fraction of the replacement cost.
These grills are built from heavy stainless and cast brass, and a well-kept one can last 20 years or more with periodic part replacement. Most of the time, the right answer for a premium built-in is to repair it.
A few brand quirks matter when you order:
- Lynx part numbers changed many times across series letters. You need the series from the rating plate, not just the width. See the Lynx parts cost guide.
- Alfresco fitment depends on the serial number, especially for burners and valves. The Alfresco parts price guide covers this.
- Fire Magic Echelon, Aurora and Choice grills share some parts but not all, and older Fire Magic models use different burners again. The Fire Magic parts guide breaks it down.
- Summerset uses its own part numbers, so cross-references from other brands rarely work.

Signs it is time to replace
- The firebox or cookbox is rusted through or cracked.
- The manifold or the frame that holds the valves is corroded.
- The grill is a discontinued brand and nobody makes burners or valves for it.
- On a cart grill, the parts you need add up to more than half of a new grill.
- You want features the old grill cannot get, like infrared burners or a larger cooking area, and the island can take a new head.
Signs it is worth repairing
- The body is stainless or cast aluminum and solid.
- The problem is wear parts: burners, igniters, heat plates, grates, knobs, a regulator.
- It is a built-in, and a new grill would mean island work.
- The brand is still in business or the parts are still made.

Find the model and serial number first
You cannot price a repair without the model and serial number. On most built-ins, the rating plate is on the underside of the drip tray, behind the control panel, or on the inside of the grill frame. On cart grills it is usually inside the cart door or on the back of a side panel. Take a photo of it. Buy OEM for valves, regulators and anything else that controls gas.
Labor
Labor depends on the job and the grill. Swapping burners and heat plates on a grill with lift-out parts is quick. Replacing a valve or manifold on a built-in means pulling the control panel and leak testing, which takes longer. As one example, a hardware store Weber repair service we looked at charges $125 for the visit and the first hour, with parts extra.
How Pro Grill and our network can help
Most companies in our network are dealers or have dealer accounts. A tech can look at the grill, tell you honestly whether it is worth fixing, and in many cases bring the right parts and do the repair on the same visit. Find a grill repair company near you, or look up pros by ZIP code. If the grill is past saving, the same companies handle new grill installation.
If you want to do it yourself or already know the part, shop Lynx parts at the Pro Grill store or shop Fire Magic parts at the Pro Grill store. For older or hard-to-find parts, ask Pro Grill to find the part for you. Pro Grill can source parts that are not listed in its online store.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth repairing an old gas grill?
Usually yes if the firebox is solid and the repair costs less than about half of a comparable new grill. Premium built-ins are almost always worth repairing, since parts are a small fraction of the $7,000 to $12,000 replacement cost.
How long should a gas grill last?
Mass-market cart grills often last 5 to 15 years depending on build and care. Premium stainless built-ins can last 20 years or more if worn parts are replaced along the way.
How much does it cost to rebuild a grill?
On a Weber, new burners and an igniter usually run about $75 to $290 in parts. On a premium built-in, a full rebuild with burners, igniters, briquette trays and valves can run $1,000 to $2,000 or more in parts.
Will a new built-in grill fit my old island cutout?
Not always. Cutout sizes vary between brands and models, so check the new grill's cutout dimensions against your island before buying. If it does not fit, the island has to be modified.
When should I replace instead of repair?
Replace when the firebox is rusted through or cracked, the manifold is corroded, parts are no longer made, or on a cheaper grill the parts add up to more than half the price of a new one.
