Based on current listings checked October 2026. Your exact price depends on model, size and part number.

Grill heat plates and briquette trays cost about $10 to $290. Weber flavorizer bar sets run about $33 to $150, Blaze flame tamers about $50 to $108 each, and OEM ceramic briquette tray assemblies for Lynx, Alfresco and Twin Eagles about $100 to $290.

Price insights

  • Weber flavorizer bars cost about $42 to $151 per OEM set, or $33 to $99 aftermarket.
  • Single flame tamers and heat plates for mid-range built-ins run about $36 to $122.
  • Ceramic briquette tray assemblies cost about $100 to $290 OEM and $72 to $225 aftermarket.
  • Aftermarket heat plates are a safe way to save money since they do not touch the gas system.
  • Rusted-through heat plates cause flare-ups and let grease drip on the burners.

Between the burners and the cooking grates, every gas grill has something that spreads heat and catches drippings. Weber calls them flavorizer bars. Blaze calls them flame tamers. AOG calls them vaporizing panels, Fire Magic calls them flavor grids, and Lynx, Alfresco and Twin Eagles use trays of ceramic briquettes. They all do the same job: protect the burners from grease, even out hot spots, and turn drippings into smoke. They also burn out, and the price depends a lot on which kind your grill uses.

Types of heat plates

  • Flavorizer bars and heat tents. Angled steel or porcelain bars that sit over each burner. Weber, Napoleon and most cart grills use them.
  • Flame tamers and flavor bars. Flat or angled stainless plates over each burner, common on Blaze, Summerset and other mid-range built-ins.
  • Vaporizing panels and flavor grids. Perforated stainless panels used by AOG and Fire Magic that cover the whole burner area.
  • Ceramic briquette trays. A stainless tray filled with ceramic briquettes, used on Lynx, Alfresco and Twin Eagles. The briquettes soak up heat and vaporize grease. The tray, the briquettes, or both can wear out.

What heat plates cost by brand

Weber and mass-market grills: about $7 to $151

Weber flavorizer bars come in sets. Spirit and Genesis II sets run about $42 to $72 for most models, and older Genesis 300 sets in stainless run about $100 to $151. Summit sets range from about $55 to $98 for newer models, while some older Summit Gold and Platinum sets run over $300. Weber heat deflectors on some Genesis grills are about $49.

Aftermarket Weber bars are cheap and widely sold, about $33 to $99 per set, and single replacement bars run about $7 to $10. Adjustable universal heat plates for big-box grills are also sold online. Measure length and width before you order. See the Weber parts cost guide for other common parts.

Mid-range built-ins: about $10 to $122 per piece

Blaze flame tamers run about $50 to $55 each for stainless or ceramic, and about $108 for the heavier Pro HD tamer. Blaze flavor bars and air baffles run about $10 to $45. A Summerset Sizzler briquette tray assembly is about $105, and Summerset burner covers for its larger grill lines run about $94 to $114. Single AOG vaporizing panels cost about $122, and full sets about $239 to $357. Aftermarket AOG heat plates run about $46 to $57 each.

Premium built-ins: about $100 to $511

Fire Magic flavor grids cost about $110 to $156 each from Fire Magic, and sets for Aurora and Echelon grills run about $176 to $511. Good aftermarket flavor grids for many Fire Magic models run about $57 to $77. Since the grids are sized by grill line and position (left, center, right), check the Fire Magic parts guide and your model number first.

Briquette tray assemblies are the most expensive heat plate setup:

  • Twin Eagles trays run about $100 to $237 depending on width.
  • Alfresco trays run about $175 to $290. Alfresco changed its tray design at serial number 11-00000, so newer grills use a different tray, base and lock bar than older ones.
  • Lynx complete tray assemblies run about $188 to $214, and the tray alone about $68 to $110.

Replacement ceramic briquettes run about $48 to $99 from the grill maker, and about $31 to $56 for aftermarket sets. See our guides to Lynx parts prices and Alfresco parts prices for more on those brands.

Grill Replacement
Grill Replacement

OEM vs aftermarket heat plates

Heat plates are one of the safest places to buy aftermarket. They do not touch the gas system, and a good stainless replacement works the same as the original. The savings on premium grills are real:

  • Lynx aftermarket briquette trays run about $79 to $90, compared with $97 to $110 for the OEM tray alone.
  • Alfresco aftermarket trays run about $72 to $225, compared with $175 to $290 OEM.
  • Twin Eagles aftermarket tray assemblies run about $99 to $199.

Watch for two things. First, the gauge of the steel. Thin aftermarket plates warp and burn through faster. Second, fit. A plate that sits too low can block the burner ports or the igniter, and a tray that is too narrow lets grease drip straight onto the burner.

Signs it is time to replace them

  • Rust holes or burned-through spots, especially right above the burners.
  • Plates or bars that are warped or sagging.
  • Ceramic briquettes that have crumbled, cracked in half, or turned black and greasy all the way through.
  • More flare-ups than usual, or grease reaching the burners and valves below.

Worn heat plates do more damage than people think. Once grease gets past them, it clogs burner ports and drips into the firebox, which is how grease fires start. Our burner cost guide shows what that can lead to.

A thorough cleaning can extend the life of heat plates and briquettes. Pros can steam clean trays and flip or replace only the worst briquettes. Look for grill cleaning services near you.

Find your model and serial number first

Get the model and serial number off the rating plate before ordering. On Weber and cart grills it is a sticker inside the cabinet door or under a side shelf. On built-ins, look behind the drip tray, on the front frame, or for a pull-out tag. Then measure the old plates or trays, length and width, and count how many your grill uses. Many built-ins use two or three different sizes on one grill.

DIY or hire a pro

Heat plates and briquette trays lift out once the grates are off. It is an easy DIY swap. The one thing to watch is position. Plates must sit in their slots or on their pegs, and briquettes should be in a single even layer, not piled up.

If the old plates were badly rusted, check the burners and igniters while everything is out. Pros usually replace heat plates during a cleaning or repair visit, since they are already pulling everything apart.

How Pro Grill and our network pros can help

Most service companies in our network are dealers or have dealer accounts, so they can usually get the right heat plates or briquette trays for your grill and install them in the same visit. Search for grill pros by ZIP code or book a grill repair visit.

Pro Grill can source heat plates and trays for most brands, including ones not listed in its store. Have Pro Grill track down the part with your model and serial number. For brands the store carries, shop Fire Magic flavor grids at the Pro Grill store or see Summerset parts at the Pro Grill store.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between flavorizer bars and heat plates?

They do the same job. Flavorizer bar is Weber's name for the angled bars over each burner. Other brands call them heat plates, flame tamers, vaporizer panels or flavor grids.

Can I use a grill without heat plates?

You should not. Without them, grease drips directly on the burners, causing flare-ups, clogged ports and uneven heat. Replace them when they rust through.

How often should I replace ceramic briquettes?

It depends on use and cleaning, but many grills need new briquettes every few years. Replace them when they crumble, crack or stay greasy and black after a burn-off.

Can I flip ceramic briquettes instead of replacing them?

Yes. Flipping briquettes lets the clean side face up and burn off grease. Once they are saturated or breaking apart, replace them.

Are aftermarket heat plates OK?

Yes, as long as they fit correctly and are made from heavy-gauge stainless. Heat plates do not touch the gas system, so aftermarket parts are a common and safe way to save money.

How we get our pricesPrices come from current listings at authorized parts dealers, the Pro Grill parts store, manufacturer parts sites and Amazon, checked by hand. We list OEM (factory) parts and, where a decent one exists, aftermarket or universal parts. Prices change with supply and model year, so treat these as ranges and confirm the exact part for your model and serial number before you order.
