What a grill cover costs in 2026

A grill cover is the cheapest part on this list and the one people skip most often. Prices run from about $20 for a basic universal cover to about $440 for a factory cover on a 54 inch Lynx cart grill. The two things that move the price the most are who made it (the grill brand or a universal cover company) and whether it fits a built-in grill head or a freestanding grill on a cart.

OEM covers vs universal covers

An OEM cover is made for one grill model. It has the right width, depth and back height, and on cart grills it is cut around the side shelves and side burner. A universal cover is sized by dimensions and fits a range of grills.

Mass-market OEM covers are reasonably priced. A Weber premium cover for a Spirit or Genesis grill runs about $80 to $100, and the Napoleon cover for a Prestige 500 is about $125. Premium built-in brands charge a lot more. A 36 inch Fire Magic or Alfresco cover is roughly $130 to $180, a Twin Eagles 36 inch built-in cover is about $260, and Lynx built-in covers run about $200 to $325 depending on width.

Universal covers sold on Amazon, at Walmart and at Target cost about $20 to $90 for freestanding grills. Built-in grill top covers from brands like Covers&All and Classic Accessories run about $50 to $135, and a full island cover that drapes the whole counter is close to $90.

Is the OEM cover worth three or four times the money? Sometimes. The factory covers on Lynx, Twin Eagles and Fire Magic are heavy vinyl with a soft lining that does not scratch the hood. A tight fit also means the wind cannot get under it and turn it into a sail. On a Weber or a Char-Broil, a decent universal cover in the right size does the same job for less.

Built-in vs freestanding covers

Built-in covers are smaller because they only cover the grill head that sits on the island. That is why a Lynx 36 inch built-in cover costs about $255 while the Lynx 36 inch freestanding cover runs about $335, and the version with a side burner cutout is close to $380. The cart cover uses a lot more material and has to drape all the way to the ground.

For a built-in, measure the grill head itself: width across the front, depth from the front of the control panel to the back of the hood, and height at the back with the hood closed. Do not measure the cutout in the island. A universal cover that is too long will pool water on top. One that is too short will leave the back of the hood exposed to sprinklers and bird mess.

Price by brand

  • Weber, Napoleon and similar mass-market grills: about $80 to $125 for the factory cover.
  • Blaze: about $80 for a 32 inch built-in cover, which is cheap for a built-in brand. Shop Blaze parts at the Pro Grill store.
  • American Outdoor Grill (AOG): about $80 to $145 for built-in covers, depending on size and seller.
  • Fire Magic: about $130 to $195. Covers are listed by grill model (Aurora A430, A540, A660, Echelon E660, E1060 and so on), so match the model, not just the width. See the Fire Magic parts price guide for other parts.
  • Alfresco: about $140 to $180 for built-in covers, $145 to $170 for cart models.
  • Twin Eagles: about $260 to $320 for built-in covers.
  • Lynx: about $200 to $325 built-in and $325 to $440 freestanding. More in the Lynx grill parts cost guide.

Does a cover actually protect the grill?

A good cover keeps rain, sprinkler water, pollen and leaves out of the burners and off the hood. That matters on a stainless grill because standing water and fertilizer from sprinklers cause the brown rust spots people call tea staining. It also keeps spiders and wasps from nesting in the venturi tubes, which is one of the more common reasons a grill starts burning yellow or lighting poorly.

A cover can also hurt. If you put it on a wet grill, or the cover does not breathe, moisture gets trapped and the stainless can spot faster than if it were left open. Near the ocean, salt air settles under the cover either way. In those cases the cover helps only if the grill gets cleaned regularly. A professional grill cleaning once or twice a year does more for a coastal grill than any cover.

A few habits that make a cover last longer:

  • Let the grill cool completely before covering it. A warm hood can melt the lining.
  • Brush off leaves and let it dry before folding it.
  • Rinse it with plain water a few times a year. Avoid harsh cleaners that strip the coating.
  • Replace it when the vinyl cracks or the seams split. A torn cover holds water against the hood.

How long a grill cover lasts

In full Southern California or Arizona sun, a cheap polyester cover often fades and tears in one to two years. Heavier vinyl OEM covers usually go three to five years before the top cracks. Covers stored under a patio roof last much longer than covers in direct sun.

How to order the right cover

For an OEM cover, you need the grill model, and the serial number helps on brands that changed sizes over the years. Most built-in grills have a rating plate on the underside of the drip tray, on the back of a control panel, or inside the cart door. Lynx, Alfresco and Fire Magic all use model numbers that include the width, so the plate tells you which cover size to order. Some brands have had several generations of the same width with different hood shapes, so do not assume a cover from an older grill fits the new one.

If your grill is older or the brand is hard to find, ask Pro Grill to track down the cover. Pro Grill can source parts and covers that are not listed in its online store. For current brands, you can shop Lynx parts at the Pro Grill store or browse Fire Magic covers and parts.

Covers and the rest of the grill

A cover will not fix a grill that already has problems. If you are pulling the cover off and finding rusted heat plates or a burner that lights on one side only, the cover is the least of your costs. The repair vs replace guide walks through when a worn grill is worth fixing, and the grill burner cost guide covers the most common replacement part.

Most companies in our network are dealers or have dealer accounts. If a tech is already out for a cleaning or repair, they can usually bring the right factory cover for your grill on the same visit. You can find a grill pro near you by ZIP code, or look for grill repair companies if the grill needs more than a cover.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a good grill cover cost?

A good universal cover costs about $40 to $90. Factory covers run about $80 to $125 for Weber and Napoleon and about $130 to $325 for premium built-in brands like Fire Magic, Alfresco, Twin Eagles and Lynx.

Why are OEM grill covers so expensive?

Premium brand covers use heavier vinyl with a soft lining and are cut for one model, and they sell in small numbers through dealers. A Lynx or Twin Eagles cover can cost $250 or more because of that, not because the material is exotic.

Will a universal cover fit a built-in grill?

Yes, if you buy a built-in grill top cover and measure the grill head width, depth and back height. Do not buy a freestanding cover for a built-in. It will be far too tall and catch the wind.

Can a grill cover cause rust?

It can if you cover a wet grill or use a cover that traps moisture, especially near the coast. Let the grill dry and cool before covering, and keep it clean underneath.

Should I cover my grill if it is under a patio roof?

It still helps with dust, pollen, pests and sprinkler overspray. A covered patio also makes any cover last much longer than one in full sun.
